Purpose of Course: This course is designed as a collaborative tutorial for a small number of undergraduate students with a particular interest in the history and culture of Ancient Rome. We will examine 8-9 topics in depth during the semester, focusing upon areas of particular interest to the students in the class. This class is not a survey, and does not intend to cover the sweep of Roman history and civilization. Rather, we will collaborate in designing, and following, a syllabus that gives us greater depth in the art, architecture, military strategy, education, social relations, religion, and other topics of Rome.
